The eleventh creative commission set to us by top chef-restaurateur Terry Laybourne, to design The Broad Chare pub and restaurant just off Newcastle’s Quayside.
The brief was to re-define what a ‘proper pub’ should be like in the 21st century. Our approach was to identify iconic aspects of the great British pub then express them in a contemporary, yet familiar, fashion.
We paired traditional stripped wooden floors and painted brickwork with deep rich colours and tactile textures; and contrasted frosted glass partitions with bar tops made from beautiful reclaimed oak pews. All creating an inviting bar and restaurant environment which quickly proved a success with customers.
